Research Experience:

1991 - 1993:
Urology research fellow in the Urologic Oncology Research Laboratory at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center headed by Drs. William R. Fair and Warren D.W. Heston. I purified PSM, the prostate specific membrane antigen, cloned the cDNA encoding it, and have localized the PSM gene to human chromosome 11. Subsequent work has involved the characterization of this new Research Experience antigen, development of anti-PSM antibodies, and the design of a PCR-based test to detect occult prostatic hematogenous micrometastases using PSM primers.

1986 - 1987:
Medical student in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Viola of the Division of Medical Oncology at SUNY-Stony Brook School of Medicine. Projects involved the construction of genomic DNA libraries from human melanoma tumors and cell lines in order to isolate the tyrosinase gene.

1984 - 1985:
Oncology research in the laboratory of Dr. Paula Pitha-Rowe of the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center. I studied the anti-viral and anti-tumor activities of the human and murine * and * interferons and examined mechanisms of interferon gene inducibility, transcriptional control, and regulation of expression.

1982 - 1984:
Molecular biology research in the laboratory of Dr. Victor Corces of the Johns Hopkins University Department of Biology. I studied the regulation and expression of the hsp70 heat shock gene in Drosophila melanogaster.
